“As the Israelites stood on the shores of the Red Sea, Pharoah’s army in pursuit, Moses encouraged them with these words: “The LORD will fight for you, and you have only to be silent” (Exodus 14:14). On the borders of the Promised Land, about to encounter pagan tribes who would seem bigger and stronger than they were, Moses reminded them again, “The LORD your God who goes before you will himself fight for you, just as he did for you in Egypt before your eyes,” (Deuteronomy 1:30) Joshua, Jehoshophat, and Nehemiah all held fast to the precious truth that no matter what enemies we face, God will defend us. As believers, we have the same assurance. Though the world, the flesh, and the devil are arrayed against us to discourage and defeat us, we have this hope: Christ has triumphed over satanic rulers and authorities through his death and resurrection (Colossians 2:25). As we, in faith, take up the whole armor of God, we know the outcome of every battle has been determined by the One who now reigns and intercedes for us. “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?” (Romans 8:31–32) Have no fear – the Lord our God fights for us.”
